Esther Mable Krogman

Ashton, Iowa Esther Krogman, age 87 of Ashton, IA died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the Sibley Nursing & Rehab in Sibley. Memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 31st at the St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, with Father John Vakulskas as celebrant. Burial will be at a later date at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30th from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 " 8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton. Esther Mable Krogman was born on December 14, 1922 in Melvin, Iowa, the daughter of Meindert and Anna (Uden) Johnson. She received her education through the eighth grade in Melvin, and later attended Asthon Public School and graduated in 1942. Esther was united in marriage to Leonard Krogman on November 23, 1943. To this union they had one son and one daughter. After fourteen years of marriage Leonard passed away on February 11, 1958. Esther worked numerous jobs throughout the years, which included Sibley Egg and Poultry, Weldon Farms, Alfs Manufacturing, Verdorn Nursing Home, Sheldon Hospital (nursing wing) and Chase Bag. After retirement she then decided to go back and work part time with her sister, Christina Freese at the Northwest Iowa Community College and the Sheldon Clinic. She loved to garden, go dancing, crochet and taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Esther is survived by her son, Larry (wife, Bonnie) Krogman; one daughter, Mary Henning both of Ashton, IA; four grandchildren, Kimberly (husband, Eric) Johnson of Ashton, Karl (wife, Ann) of Salem, OR, Kerri (husband, Bruce) Scholten of Ashton and Kristal (husband, DeLynn) Friedrichsen of Sioux City, IA; eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Christina Freese and one brother, Merlyn (wife, Judy) Johnson both of Ashton, IA; two sisters-in-law, Florence Kreager of Sioux Falls, SD and Annabell Krogman of Sibley, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Krogman; her parents, Meindert and Anna Johnson; two brothers, William and Alfred Johnson; one sister, Lena Kruger; son-in-law, Robert Henning; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
