Sibley, IA Marguerite "Mag" McCarty, age 92 of Sibley, IA died Monday November 11, 2013 at Sibley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Sibley, with Pastor Shannon Pascual officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Thursday, November 14th from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Marguerite "Mag" McCarty was born on December 7, 1920 in Wilmont, Minnesota, the daughter of Arondt and Henrietta (Kuyper) VanDeBerg. She attended community school in Wilmont and graduated from Worthington High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Wilton S. McCarty on June 28, 1944 in Sibley, Iowa. Together they farmed for many years north of Sibley. She began working for the City of Sibley Power Plant as an office assistant and retired in 1965. On July 24, 1977 Margueritess husband, Wilton McCarty died, after 33 years of marriage. She remained living on the farm until 2000 when she moved to her home in Sibley. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sibley, and participated actively in various church activities. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, watching football and Jeopardy. She had a passion for baking and cooking, and was often complimented on her abilities. Most of all she took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, following them closely with all of their school events and life activities. In October of 2013 she entered Sibley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, IA, and remained there until her death this past Monday, November 11, 2013, where she died at the age of 92. Mags family will remember her as a devoted caregiver and one who always put the needs of others first. She is survived by two sons, Wendell S. McCarty and Marlan "Butch" McCarty, both of Sibley, IA; a daughter, Sherry (McCarty) Johnson of Meeteetsee, WY; nine grandchildren, Tyra (Tom) Moe of Alaska, Shane (Joelle) Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK, Kelly (Rod) Ullom of Meeteetsee, WY, Patrick (Jackie) McCarty of Rock Rapids, IA, Nancy (Pete) Hoogendoorn of Larchwood, IA, Michael McCarty of Jackson, MN, Timothy McCarty of Mitchell, NE, Wade (Lauri) McCarty of Sibley, IA and Stacie (Jeff) Golombiecki of Bigelow, MN; thirteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Robert Munns of Hawarden, IA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arondt and Henrietta VanDeBerg; her husband, Wilton S. McCarty; a son, Ronald Bud McCarty; a granddaughter, Courtney McCarty-Johnson; and three sisters, Donna Munns, Jackie Petersen and Arline McKenny.
