William Henry Vogt was born on May 24, 1932, the son of George and Anna (DeWitt) Vogt. He grew up on a farm near Rushmore, MN, attending District 12 School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951. On February 14, 1953, before leaving to serve in the Korean Conflict, he was united in marriage to Dixie Dirks in George, Iowa. After being honorably discharged from the service, he worked in Worthington, MN, and George, IA, until they moved to Rock Rapids in 1960. After working at Rasmussen Tin Shop for eight years, Bill bought the business. Together with Dixie, and later their sons, Jim and Mike, he owned and operated Vogt Plumbing and Heating Inc. for forty years, until his health no longer allowed him to work. Bill was a lifetime member of the Van Anne-Fields VFW Post 6960 and the Rex Strait American Legion Post 103. He was a member of the Rock Rapids City Council and the Rock River Country Club Board. He was also a member of the Christian Church (Disciples), where he once served as deacon and as a board member. Bill was extremely proud of his five grandchildren and loved them dearly. He loved to golf, bowl, and play cards with family and friends. A favorite of Bills, especially after he became ill, was to stop at the VFW, Pool Hall, or the Deli to shoot the breeze with the guys. Bill is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Dixie Vogt of Rock Rapids, IA; two sons both of Rock Rapids, Jim Vogt and his children, Brittany and Kelsey, and Mike (wife, Nancy) Vogt and their children, Mitchell, Karmen and Kristina; two sisters, Shirley (husband, George) Heidebrink of Worthington, MN and Betty (husband, Larry) Rosenberg of Slayton, MN; two brothers, George, Jr. (wife, Donna) Vogt of Hartford, SD and Gordon Vogt of Louisville, KY; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Anna Vogt and a sister, Henrietta Vogt.
