Norma Stiegelmeyer

NOTICE: Rock Rapids, IA Norma Stiegelmeyer, age 96 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, July 10th at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, with Rev. Anita Bane officiating. Private family burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday, July 10th at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Norma (Kostman) Stiegelmeyer was born April 26, 1913 at Rock Rapids, Iowa the daughter of Albert and Lillie (Griesse) Kostman. She attended school in Rock Rapids and was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Norma was the second oldest sister in the family. She worked hard on the farm; in fact, all the family did, growing up in the 30s during the depression. During WW II Norma, Marvel and Eleanor worked in offices at Alcoa Aluminum in Vancouver, WA. On March 25th, 1947 she was united in marriage to Vernon Stiegelmeyer at Luverne, MN. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Sioux Falls, SD where they farmed for 21 years. Norma always helped her husband with the milking. She raised chickens, had a big vegetable garden and always lots of flowers. She also loved to bake and cook. Norma especially enjoyed family gatherings. Following their retirement from farming in 1976, she and Vernon moved to Fairview, SD. Vernon passed away on March 15, 2001. Norma is now at peace with our Heavenly Father. Norma in survived by her sisters, Marvel Huskinson, of Wilsonville, OR, Mildred Holst of Ft. Dodge, IA, Eleanor Rognas of Sioux Falls, SD and Marcille Wallner, of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Wilmer (Doris) Kostman of Detroit Lakes, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lillie Kostman; her husband of 54 years, Vernon Stiegelmeyer; sisters, Evelyn Hunt and Hazel Lohman; and brother, Vernon Kostman.
