George, Iowa Marvel J. Blum, age 80 of George, IA died Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday September 7, 2012 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA. Visitation will be Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Marvel Joyce Blum was born November 13, 1931 at Willow Lake, South Dakota to Albert and Bertha (Bruns) Kannegieter. She was raised and educated in George, IA graduating in 1949. She went on to further her education attending Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls. On June 7, 1952, she was united in marriage to Ronald Blum in the chapel at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois while Ron was in the service. The couple first moved to Aurora, Illinois before going to Dekalb, Illinois where Ronald worked for IBM for 35 years and Marvel worked at the Growing Place as well as the Extension Office. In 1985 Ron retired and they moved to Mesa, Arizona. As one who liked to keep busy, Marvel went to work for the Arizona Water Dept. and in 2007 the couple moved back to George. Marvel lost her beloved husband of 58 years in 2010. She and Ron were members of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George where Marvel was a member of the United Presbyterian Women and later attended Ladies Bible Study. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, crossword puzzles, cross stitching, board games and camping. Her family and friends were very important to her and she enjoyed visiting and sharing special times with them all. This past Monday September 3, 2012 Marvel passed away at the George Good Samaritan Home at the age of 80. She will be greatly missed. Marvel is survived by her son, Robert (Beth) Blum of Kingston, IL; sister, Agnes Kruse, brother, Delbert (Gladys) Kannegieter, sister, Wanda Koger, sister-in-law, Marlene Kannegieter, all of George, IA; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members . She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bertha Kannegieter; husband Ronald; son, Jeff Blum; brothers, Henry and Robert Kannegieter; sisters, Mattie Johnson and Delores Colwell.
