Notice: Larchwood, IA Edna L. Schettler, age 84 of Larchwood, IA died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Sanford Hospital Canton-Inwood in Canton, SD Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, August 15, 2011 at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, with Father Jeff Schleisman as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, August 14th from 2 " 8 PM, with family present from 6 " 8 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. There will be a Vigil Service at 7 PM at the church Sunday evening. Edna Louise Schettler was born on April 29, 1927 in Canistota, SD, the daughter of William Sr. and Amelia (Harms) Bormann. She married Leo W. Schettler on November 29, 1950 in Larchwood, IA. Leo died on December 26, 1992. They farmed and raised four boys near Larchwood, where she enjoyed baking, cooking and caring for her family. Edna and Leo loved to go bowling, dancing and playing cards with family and friends. Edna found great joy in her grandchildren, as her and Leo loved celebrating the holidays with them, especially big Easter egg hunts. Edna also loved spending time playing the organ and telling her famous stories to anyone who would listen. Edna was a member of The Church of St. Mary and St. Marys Altar Society in Larchwood. Left to share her memories are her sons and their spouses, James and Sharon Schettler of Sioux City, IA, Gerald and Danilee Schettler of Valley Springs, SD, Allen and Tammy Schettler of Larchwood, IA and Eugene and LaRae Schettler of Sheldon, IA; her grandchildren, Jason (Amelia) Schettler, Bridget (Matt) Breen, Megan (Tyler) Jacobson, Taryn (James) Smith, Jordan Schettler, Rachel Schettler, Neil and Craig Schettler; nine great grandchildren, RJ, Elizabeth and Jason Breen, Rachel and Sarah Schettler, Sean Gottschalk, Brooklyn, Brianna Jacobson, and Jazzlyn Magera; her sister, Gertrude Rosenquist; sisters-in-law, Emma Lucas, Clara George, and Louise Bormann; and brother-in-law, Alvin Schettler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents, William and Amelia (Harms) Bormann; two brothers, Bill and Fred Bormann; and two sisters, Emma Engel and Bertha Arends.
