Scott A. Hoekstra, age 54 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 25th, 2011 at Christian Church (Disciples) in Rock Rapids with Rev. Carolyn Salberg officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, July 24th from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, IA. Scott Allen Hoekstra was born December 21, 1956 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Erwin and Myra (Rosenberg) Hoekstra. He grew up on a farm southwest of Rock Rapids and attended Central Lyon Community Schools. He graduated from Central Lyon High School in 1975. On May 21, 1976 he was united in marriage to Eloise Joan Kuyper at the First Reformed Church in Inwood, IA. Together they lived in Rock Rapids for a few years and then moved back to his familys farm, where he remained. He raised crops and maintained a dairy most of his life and worked at various places such as Midland Machinery, Mulder Implement and loaded hogs for Leroy Rath. Scott enjoyed reading, old cars and building things. He had many fond memories, spending time with family and friends, camping and sightseeing. Most of all he loved farming. He was very proud of his family farm which has been in the family for over a century. He also was very proud of his daughter Kathryn for all of her accomplishments and attending college. His family will remember Scott as a kind hearted man, who put others needs in front of his own. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Eloise Hoekstra of Rock Rapids, IA; his daughter, Kathryn Hoekstra of Rock Rapids, IA; three brothers, Gene (Marcia) Hoekstra of Dunnellon, FL, Edwin (Linda) Hoekstra of Tucson, AZ and Ronald (Beth) Hoekstra of Castle Rock, CO; mother-in-law, Alice (Kuyper) Diekevers of Inwood, IA; five sisters-in-law, Elaine (Richard) Ekle of Canton, SD, Norma (Alan) Maurer of Larchwood, IA, Diane (Verlyn) Wildeboer of Canton, SD, Carol (Doug) Frierst of Harrisburg, SD and Mary (Warren) Koele of Hull, IA; and many other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Myra Hoekstra; three sisters, infant Mary Hoekstra, Myrna Plymire and Barbara Hoekstra; one brother, Jim Hoekstra; two nephews, Jonathon Maurer and Wade Ekle; and father-in-law, Marvin Kuyper.
