Rock Rapids, Iowa Bill Nyenhuis, age 64 of Rock Rapids, IA died on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, with Reverend Cliff Hoekstra officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 14th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. Billy Dean Nyenhuis was born on November 21, 1948 in Rock Rapids, IA, the son of Gerrit and Gertrude (Harmsen) Nyenhuis. He grew up in Rock Rapids and attended the Rock Rapids Christian grade school and later attended and graduated in 1966 from Western Christian High School in Hull, IA. Bill then went to Northwestern College in Orange City, IA for a year and Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA for two years. On June 25, 1970, Bill was united in marriage to Nelva Lubbers at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA. The couple lived in California for four years where Bill worked as a carpet layer and then moved back to Rock Rapids where they have lived ever since. After returning to Rock Rapids, Bill worked for Inwood Furniture for a time and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Rock Rapids for thirty-five years. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, where he served on the consistory for a number of years. He also served on the Western Christian school board for many years. Bills hobbies included golfing, fishing and watching sports, especially the Boston Celtics. He was very proud of his grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with them. Bill went special delivery, paid in full. Bill is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Nelva Nyenhuis of Rock Rapids, IA; three children, Julie (Jeff) Van Schepen, and their children, Jacie, Dawson, Jaden and Maggie of Hull, IA, Becky (Jason) Statema, and their children, Kyler, Taylor and Brody of Rock Valley, IA and Garry (Sandra) Nyenhuis, and their children, Elijah, Sarah and Caleb of Rock Valley, IA; three sisters, Karen (Robert) Barnaby of Sioux Falls, SD, Glenda Lohse of Sioux Falls, SD and Bonnie (Norwin) Koel of Rock Rapids, IA; one brother, Greg Nyenhuis of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Mark Lohse.
