Her mother was a gifted seamstress and made clothing for many customers and costumes for Dolores to wear in parades. Her father was a skilled butcher. She was reared and received her education in Sibley. On February 17, 1947 she was united in marriage to Ambrose W. Poss at St. Andrews Catholic Church, locally. The young couple then moved to Des Moines, IA. Dolores worked at Meredith Publishing as a proofreader with the magazine Better Homes and Gardens. She held high esteem for her husband Ambrose, a World War II veteran. Ambrose also completed his Business Administration degree from the American Institute of Business. While in Des Moines, Dolores and Ambrose had two children, Douglas and Julie. This prompted Dolores to leave her employment and raise their children. They returned to Sibley where Dolores became involved with various family business ventures as well as working for the Review. In 2005 her beloved husband Ambrose passed away. Dolores spent time living with Julie, Jim and Katie in Omaha. After a brief return to Sibley she decided to return to Omaha and reside closer to family at Fountain View Assisted Living Center in Omaha, NE. Later, her deteriorating medical condition forced Dolores to relocate to Brookestone Village. She maintained her home in Sibley, but was never able to return home. During her life Dolores loved to travel. She and Ambrose even shared several trips with the children and their spouses. While her son served in the US Military, she and Ambrose frequently visited him. Dolores and Ambrose also vacationed in Europe. Later, Dolores was able to share a return trip to Europe with her daughter Julie. Dolores also enjoyed family tailgate parties, following the Iowa Hawkeyes, and watching other sports teams. Dolores especially loved hunting for antiques so much so, that her passion evolved into a business. While on vacation visiting her children, Dolores would often shop with the family at auctions and rummage sales for items to resell. But most of all, she just loved spending time with her immediate family as well as her nephew and niece, E.J. and Anita Poss of Omaha. They meant the world to her! For this reason, Douglas and Tonia left their home in Missouri several months ago and began residing in temporary housing next to Brookstone. The family often took Dolores for walks by the lake or helped the nurses care for her. The entire family planned weekly activities with Dolores. She would brag to the nursing staff about her little family and their most recent venture to local events or evenings out at dinner clubs. In her late years Dolores fell head over heels in love with her granddaughter, Katie Sue, and especially loved spending time with her. She loved attending Katies soccer games, school events and concerts. Dolores is survived her son Douglas (Tonia) Poss of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Julie (Jim) Sabin of Omaha, NE; granddaughter, Katie Sue Sabin of Omaha, NE; brothers in law, Dallas (Lorraine) Poss of Sibley, IA and Alvin Poss of Florence, Oregon; several cousins; many nieces and nephews and their spouses.
