He grew up in the Sibley area and graduated from Sibley High School in 1960. During his teenage years he worked for Macks Grocery and the Coca Cola Company in Sibley. On August 5, 1961, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Nelson and to this union two children were born, Daniel and Roberta. Robert and Gerry took many motorcycle trips with friends to the Black Hills and Duluth, MN. He also obtained his pilots license and liked to fly his own Cessna. Robert was a partner in the Wills Truck Line family business. Over the years they hauled livestock, tile for Sibley Concrete, Coca Cola and liquid eggs out of Sibley, and beer out of Sheldon. The Wills Truck Line leased their equipment to MCT out of Sioux Falls, SD. Following this Robert taught Diesel Mechanics at NCC in Sheldon, IA for a year and then started Wills Repair in Ocheyedan, IA. He was employed at Kuker Trucking Company in Spirit Lake from 2006 to 2008. His last mechanical repair was two transmission over halls in June of 2009. Roberts hobbies included photography, building model airplanes, hunting, fishing, trap shooting, sailing, and visiting with his coffee friends at Pronto. He also enjoyed restoring old trucks, Model A cars, and building semi-trucks from a kit. Robert loved helping many in the area with his known mechanical trade. He treasured the memories of taking his grandson fishing at Leckbands Pond by Ocheyedan and at Spirit Lake, and of passing on his skill of welding to him. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends and acquaintances. He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Geraldine Gerry Wills of Sibley; two children, Daniel Wills of Sheldon, IA and Roberta Wills of Sibley; one grandson, Justin Wills; two siblings, Doris (husband, Darrell) Downs of Marcus, IA and Gary (wife, Uli) Wills, Of Atlanta GA; sister-in-law, Caren Wills of Sibley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
