Sibley, IA Brad Huisenga, age 48 of Sibley, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at his home on the family farm surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 1st, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, with Rev. Scott Meyer officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service, private for family, in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley. Visitation will be Thursday, May 31st, with family present from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Walton-Roste Funeral Home of Sibley. Brad Richard Huisenga was born on February 18, 1959, the son of Roger and Marilyn (Attig) Huisenga in Sibley, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm near Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School in 1977. He was outstanding in football and track, still holding the school record for the 880 relay. He then attended South Dakota State University majoring in horticulture. In the spring of 1980, he was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and was cured with treatment. He graduated from SDSU in December 1981. He was proud to be a Sibley General and an SDSU Jackrabbit. On April 11, 1993, Brad was united in marriage to Diann Fulk in Las Vegas and began a life with his new family of girls. Brad worked at Exopack as the Human Resources Director and also the Safety Director for twenty years. He loved his job and enjoyed the people he worked with. He was a member of the Osceola County Conservation League, Ducks Unlimited and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, rooting for the Cardinals baseball team and the Green Bay Packers football team. Brad was a loyal friend. Friendship was important to him and he loved going to class reunions and family gatherings. He loved all kinds of music and went to many live music concerts. He was an avid conservationist, planting trees and helping out where he could. On April 18, 2006, Brad was diagnosed with lung and bone cancer. He fought a courageous battle. He was a wonderful husband, dad, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend and will be missed by all that knew him. Brad is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Diann Huisenga of Sibley; two daughters, Tracy (husband Jamin) Breuer of Sioux Falls, SD and Katie Knock of Sibley; his parents, Roger and Marilyn Huisenga of Sibley; father-in-law, Gene Fulk of Sanborn, IA; three siblings, Scott (wife Jerolyn) Huisenga of Sibley, Daniel (wife Patricia) Huisenga of Ames, IA and David (wife Dawn) Huisenga of Ashton, IA; four nieces and two nephews, Michael and Betsy Huisenga, Shelby Huisenga, Caitlin and Miranda Stewart and Tyler Hausen; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harold and Lillian Attig; paternal grandparents, Ollie and Millie Huisenga; and his mother-in-law, Jean Fulk. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Brad Huisenga Outdoor Opportunity Fund.
