Sibley, IA Albert Buchholtz, age 86 of Sibley, IA died Monday, April 18th, 2011 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 21st, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA with Reverend Terry Simm officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, IA. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 20th, from 2 - 8 PM with family present from 6 - 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, IA. Albert LeRoy Buchholtz was born August 24, 1924 in Sibley, IA to Ralph and Carrie (Klaassen) Buchholtz. He was raised and received his education in Sibley. He joined the National Guard and served for four years early in his life. On August 24th, 1950 he was united in marriage to Darlene Kruger at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. Together they made their home in Sibley Iowa and raised four children. Albert worked at the Sibley Cement plant, drove gas truck for United Farm Service, was a dealer for Watkins and finally worked on the street department for the city of Sibley. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and in the church served on the Married Group, Senior High Sponsor and served as Deacon and Elder. He also served as a leader for the Webalo Scouts, the PTA and Band Boosters. After his retirement he served as groundskeeper of the Osceola County Fairgrounds until 1994 and was also the groundskeeper at Sibley State Bank. Also, many area contractors took their saw blades to Albert for him to sharpen. Alberts family will remember him as a caring and loving man with a good sense of humor. Albert was an avid camper and enjoyed the time he spent with Darlene and their children on their many camping trips. In their retirement years, Albert and Darlene spent special time with the grandchildren on weekend camping trips. Albert also possessed exceptional woodworking skills, making many items for their home as well as his childrens. He was a loyal Minnesota Vikings football fan. Albert enjoyed his family very much and they will miss him greatly. This past Monday Albert died at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley at the age of 86. Albert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene Buchholtz of Sibley, IA; sons, Roger (Gail) Buchholtz of Sibley, IA and Wayne (Pam) Buchholtz of Dubuque, IA; son, Gary (Barb) Buchholtz of Tea, SD; and daughter, Carol (Scott) Smidt of Larchwood, IA; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twins, Dean and Duane; sister, Anne Vander Wilt and brother, Alvin Buchholtz.
