Erika Place

Sibley, Iowa Erika Place, age 84 of Sibley, IA, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Visitation will be Friday, November 2nd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Burial will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 3rd at Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton, IA. Family and friends will gather at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley at 1:30 PM to travel in procession to the cemetery. Erika Place was born on April 2, 1928 in Augsburg, Germany, the daughter of Gottfried and Minna (Stiebert) Pflumm. On March 11, 1967 Erika was united in marriage to Arthur Place in Tekamah, NE. Together they lived various places such as Ft. Eustis, VA, Ft. Hood, TX, and Corpus Christi, TX. After Art retired from the military Erika and Art moved to Craig, NE. They lived there until 2001, when they moved to their home in Sibley, IA. Erika had been a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Cottonwood Quilters of Nebraska. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, eating out with friends, attending community activities and auctions. She will be greatly missed. Erika is survived by many friends and her dog, Boba. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gottfried; and her husband Art Place in 2010.
