Kevin Degroot

Kevin S. DeGroot, 54 of Rock Rapids, IA formerly of George, IA died Friday, May 6, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 10, at Zoar Presbyterian Church rural George with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George. Visitation will be Monday, May 9th from 4 PM to 8 PM with family present from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George, IA. Kevin DeGroot was born August 28, 1956 in Rock Rapids to Harold and Wilda (Moreland) DeGroot. He was raised in the George area and graduated from George High School. Kevin worked at Demco in Boyden for quite a number of years until an injury caused his retirement from that job. He spent the remainder of his career working in carpentry. Kevin was a very likeable man who was always willing to help others. The folks that lived at his apartment building referred to him as Mr. Fixit because he was very willing and able to help someone fix something. Life wasnt always easy for Kevin but his children will remember that their Dad loved them dearly. This past Friday Kevin passed away in Sioux Falls, SD due to a brief illness. He will be greatly missed. Kevin is survived by his son, Keith DeGroot and Amy Cudmore of Harrisburg, SD; daughter, Lisa DeGroot and Brian Margeson of Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Zach DeGroot of Walla Walla, WA and Eric DeGroot of Luverne, MN; five grandchildren; brother, Kendall DeGroot of Sheldon, IA; sisters, Linda (Daryl) Mouw of Boyden, IA and Ann (Steve) Klaahsen of George; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson, Chase; and sister-in-law, Linda DeGroot.
