NOTICE: Steen, MN Joan Hoogeveen, age 92 of Steen, MN died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 3rd, 2009 at the Steen Reformed Church in Steen, MN with Rev. Dan Kuik officiating. Visitation will take place at the Steen Reformed Church on Thursday, July 2nd from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday morning, July 3rd from 9:00 a.m. until time of procession to East Side Cemetery for committal at 9:30 a.m. Joan Hoogeveen was born on October 10, 1916, to Jake and Annie (Van Berkum) Wissink at the family farm. She attended elementary school in Steen, high school in Hills, and Normal Teachers Training in Luverne, MN. She taught at the Steen Elementary School for four years. Joan was married to Ben Hoogeveen on June 20, 1940. They lived on their farm until 1975 when they moved to Steen. Ben died in January 1982. Joan continued to live there alone until May of this year, when she moved into the Tuff Memorial Home. She was a member of the Steen Reformed Church for her entire life. Joan is survived by two daughters, Janice and husband Jerry Peters of Chandler, MN, and Audrey and husband Ricky De Boer of Tea, SD; two granddaughters, Dana De Boer of Tea, Tracy and husband Jeremy Henle of North Lauderdale, FL; and her brother, Harold Wissink of Ellsworth, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben; brother, Jim Wissink, and sister Mildred Tapp.
