Kenneth Dykstra, age 52 of George, IA, died Saturday, November 4, 2006, at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8th, at Hope Reformed Church at George, IA, with Rev. David Vander Laan officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-7 p.m. with the family present from 4-7 p.m. at the Roste Funeral Home of George. Kenneth Jay Dykstra was born August 21, 1954, at Rock Rapids, IA, the son of Joel and Tracy (Schenk) Dykstra. Ken grew up on a farm west of George. He attended and graduated from George High School in 1972. Ken was united in marriage to Nadine De Groot on June 25, 1976, at Hope Reformed Church. He farmed the family farm and lived there until 1986, when he and his family moved into George. Ken continued to farm while working at Siebring Manufacturing, where he was a shop supervisor. He was a member of Hope Reformed Church where he had served as a Deacon and currently as an Elder, as well as on numerous task force committees. Ken was also a member of the George Chamber of Commerce. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, restoring old furniture, and working on the farm. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson. In September 2006, Ken was diagnosed with cancer and died this past Saturday afternoon, November 4, 2006, at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital at the age of fifty-two. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Nadine of George; his children, Jennifer and her husband, Dan Helkenn of Beresford, SD; Brad Dykstra of George; and Todd Dykstra of Sioux Falls, SD; one grandson, Matthew Helkenn; two brothers, Gerald and Janice Dykstra of Sheboygan Falls, WI; and Harlan and Janice Dykstra of Iowa City, IA; and one sister, Carol and Rodney von Glan of Breda, IA. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Tracy Dykstra.
