Sibley, IA Alice Schoon, age 90, of Sibley, Iowa, died Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa. Memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, with Reverend Gary Van Heukelom officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley, with family and friends meeting at the Jurrens Funeral Home at 9:15 A.M. Wednesday morning. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 10 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Alice Gertrude (Huisman) Schoon was born on May 6, 1920, the daughter of Robert and Lydia (Stippich) Huisman in Scotland, South Dakota, where she attended country school and high school through her freshman year. On March 1, 1935, her family moved to a farm northwest of Sibley, Iowa. In May of 1938, she graduated from Sibley High School. On March 22, 1945, she was united in marriage to Theodore H. Schoon of George, IA at the Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley, Iowa. The couple farmed near George until October 1956, when they moved to a farm northwest of Sibley. In December of 1988, they retired into Sibley. Ted passed away on November 18, 2000. In August 2001, Alice became a resident of Heartwood Heights. She then lived with daughter Lois in Alexandria for a year prior to moving into Country View Manor in 2007. Alice was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and devoted her life to serving others. She is survived by eight children, Mary (husband Henry) Iedema of Sanborn, IA, Robert (wife Helen) Schoon of Spirit Lake, IA, Lois (husband Robert) Nieuwendorp of Alexandria, MN, Wanda (husband Arlyn) Norris of Treynor, IA, Linda (husband Alan) Vander Zwaag of Orange City, IA, Greg Schoon of Tuscon, AZ, Sharon (husband Kyle) Carroll of Maysville, MO, and Randy (wife Renee) Schoon of Rochester, MN; twenty grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Seth (wife Livvy) Huisman of Cornwall, PA, and Ted (wife Vivian) Huisman of Newton, IA; one sister, Vera (husband Frank) Likens of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, and one brother, Fred Huisman.
