Gene Dochnahl

GEORGE, IA Gene Dochnahl, age 83 died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in George, Iowa. Memorial services will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday Dec. 18th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, IA with Rev. Tony Metz, officiating. Fellowship will follow the memorial service at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Internment will be at a later date in the Graceland Cemetery in Madison, SD Gene Raymond Dochnahl was born November 11, 1926, at Madison, South Dakota, the son of Albert Marion and Jessie Lorraine (Dixon) Dochnahl. Gene grew up in George and graduated from George High School. After high school he proudly served his country during World War II in the Navy. He was stationed in the Philippines with a construction battalion. On July 15, 1964, Gene was united in marriage to Kathleen Adair at Maywood, Illinois. Gene and Kathleen made their home in George where he worked as a carpenter, owned and operated K&D TV with Martin Kruse. He was a member of the American Legion. Genes hobbies were working with leather and wood. He loved to fish and was an avid gunsmith. Kathleen died on May 10, 2008, ending their marriage of forty-three years. Genes passion for life declined along with his health after Kathleens death. He is survived by his son, Geff Dochnahl of George; his step-children, Mike Schnurstein of Aurora, CO; Bob Schnurstein of Worthington, MN and Kathy Graack of Sioux Falls, SD. There are four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Jessie and his wife, Kathleen.
