Sibley, IA Timothy Tim McCarty, age 39 of Mitchell, NE, formerly of Sibley, IA, died suddenly on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Lincoln, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, December 20, 2013 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley, Iowa, with Father John Vakulskas and Father Tim Hogan concelebrating. Visitation will be Thursday, December 19th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. There will be a Rosary at 5:00 PM and a Vigil service at 7:30 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home Thursday evening. Timothy Tim McCarty was born in Sibley, Iowa to Ronald Bud and Alice (Karschnik) McCarty on May 1, 1974. He attended Sibley Community Schools and excelled in sports. He made 1st team All-Northwest Iowa Review, 3rd team Iowa All-State in 1992 for football. Upon his graduation in 1993 he attended Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa with an athletic scholarship for football. He received his Associates and Bachelor degrees in Criminal Justice from Colorado Technical University and began employment as a correctional officer for the Wyoming Department of Corrections in Newcastle, WY. He was there for approximately two years and then transferred to help start-up the newly constructed facility in Torrington, WY as Key Master. Upon completion of the prison Tim had attained the level of Sergeant and was employed as a correctional officer. Tim was very proud of his job. He appreciated the people he worked with and was highly respected by his co-workers. In November of 2013 Tim received his Masters degree with honors and was registered to begin studies for his doctorate. As a young boy, Tim thoroughly enjoyed the Boy Scouts camping and fishing trips to Lake Eli in the Lake of the Woods area. He was an excellent swimmer and spent many days at the local swimming pool. He loved football and was a big Packer fan. Tim was proud of his Irish heritage and looked forward to attending the St. Patricks Day celebration with his mom in Sioux Falls and seeing their friends, the bag pipers, from Canada. He looked forward to any opportunity he had to spend with his family. His favorite movies were Big Jake, Roadhouse, and The Boondock Saints. Tim is survived by his mother, Alice McCarty; brother, Patrick (Jackie) McCarty, Rock Rapids, IA; sister, Nancy (Pete) Hoogendorn, Inwood, IA; brother, Michael McCarty and his fianc, Erica Black and her son, Zane, Milford, IA; five nieces, Heather Dumont, Jane Swenson, Caitlin McCarty, Kate Swenson, Shannon McCarty; one nephew, Mark Swenson; and Tims fianc, Rocki Stutzman. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Bud McCarty; grandparents, William and Clara Karschnik; grandfather, W.S. McCarty; step-grandmother, Marguerite Vande Berg McCarty.
