George, Iowa Shirley Broesder, age 75 of George, IA died unexpectedly on Friday, May 13, 2011 at her home in George, IA. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 18th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, IA, with burial to follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 17th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Shirley Ann Broesder was born on December 26, 1935, in Richland Township near Inwood, IA, the daughter of Julius Jute and Annie (Schroeder) Haack. She was baptized and confirmed at the Christ Lutheran Church in Alvord, IA. She worked at Rock Rapids State Bank for several years. On January 24, 1959, she was united in marriage to Glen Broesder at Christ Lutheran Church in Alvord, IA. They lived in Rock Rapids until December of 1959, when they moved to a farm southeast of Rock Rapids and lived there for twenty-two years. They were blessed with three sons. In March of 1983, the couple purchased and moved onto the Broesder family farm where they remained until retirement. They moved to George, IA in January of 1995. On July 15, 2000, Glen passed away after forty-one years of marriage. After his death, Shirley continued to make her home in George. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in George and was active with various church activities. She was a member of Van Anne - Fields American Legion Auxiliary No. 6960 in Rock Rapids, IA and the Sauter American Legion Auxiliary No. 404 of George, IA. Shirley enjoyed writing daily in her diary. She also loved playing cards, gardening, canning, board games and most of all, spending time with her family. She is survived by three sons, Randall (Tracy) Broesder of Forest City, IA, David (Carol) Broesder of Beaver Creek, MN and Scott Broesder of Boone, IA; four grandchildren, Becky (Travis) Day, Andrew (special friend, Amy Heims) Broesder, Travis (Heidi) Broesder and Lanae Broesder; two great-grandsons, Tayten James Day and Camdyn Glen Broesder; two step-grandsons, Andrew and Adam Eden; two sisters-in-law, Leona Haack and Barb (Stan) Middle; two nephews, Jerry (Laura) Haack and their children, Joey and Karli and Kevin Broesder; four nieces, Shirley (Gary) McClure, Joyce Jones, Sheri (Todd) Swank and their children, Avery and Luke, and Teresa Broesder. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Broesder; parents, Julius and Annie Haack; a brother, Larry Haack; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Howard Scoville; and brother-in-law, Robert Broesder.
