George, Iowa Gladys Harms, age 91, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of George, IA died Wednesday July 13, 2011 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday July 18th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in George, IA. Visitation will be Sunday July 17th from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of George, IA. Gladys (Christensen) Harms was born on September 13, 1919, in Canton, SD, the daughter of Sam & Elsie (Nielsen) Christensen. Her childhood years were spent in different locations in Northwest Iowa. Gladys graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1937. She worked at the Joy Lunch Restaurant in Rock Rapids, IA where she met her future husband, Win Harms. They were married November 26, 1938, in George, IA. Win and Gladys spent their married life farming east of George. Gladys was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church; she was involved in Ladies Aide, Circle and Bible Study. Gladys family was very important to her. She enjoyed family gatherings and cooking everyones favorite dishes. Gladys spent a lot of time knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Gladys & Win enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and attending trap shoots all over the United States. Gladys spent the last several years at StoneyBrook Assisted Living in Sioux Falls. She is survived by son, Charlie Harms of Sioux Falls, SD, and daughter, Patsy Clark of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren " Bob (Toni) Harms of Palos Heights, IL; Kelly (Brian) Sutton of Waverly, IA; Dr. Mike (Missy) Harms of Glenview, IL; Niki Clark of Sioux Falls, SD; two great-granddaughters " Stefanie & Jenni Sutton; Brother, Harlan (Donna) Christensen of Sacramento, CA; and sister-in-laws Bonita Christensen of Sacramento, CA and Charlotte Perrault of Rosemont, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Win; son-in-law Randy Clark; daughter-in-law Faye Harms; her parents, brothers Clarence and Norman Christensen; sisters June Vickerman and JoAnn Rice.
