August Gus Knoblock, Jr. was born November 1, 1917 near Lester, IA to Emma (Maurer) and August Knoblock, Sr. He was raised on the family farm near Lester and attended Logan #6 country school through the 8th grade. On August 21, 1949, Gus was united in marriage to Florence Mogler and together the couple raised their four children on the same farm. Gus and Florence enjoyed over 64 years of marriage. Gus treasured his faith, family, and friends. In 1951, he became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. Being able to attend church gatherings was a privilege for Gus as evident by his regular church attendance, faithfulness, and his loving example. His children and grandchildren were a source of joy and happiness; he shared his love for music by playing the harmonica for them. Gus thoroughly enjoyed farming, from tilling the soil to caring for his livestock, often being heard singing while feeding his cattle. He was never too busy to assist neighbors and those in need. For over 62 years, Gus lived on the home place. In February of 1980, the couple moved to a home in Lester, and Gus continued going to the farm as long as health permitted. They also spent many winters in Zapata, TX and Tucson, AZ enjoying the warm weather and fellowship. In March 2005, Gus became a resident of the Rock Rapids Health Centre and looked forward to coming to church in his wheelchair. He resided at the Health Centre until his death on December 12, 2013.
