NOTICE: Hills, MN Margaret Bakker, age 85 of Hills, MN died Wednesday July 3, 2013 at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 6th, 2013 at the Reformed Church of Steen in Steen, MN, with Pastor Dan Kuik officiating. Burial will follow at East Side Cemetery in Steen. Visitation will be Friday, July 5th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home in Hills, MN. Margaret Bakker was born November 22, 1927 on a farm near Hills, MN to Herman and Sarah (Boon) Van Maanen. She received her education at a country school near Hills and it was said that she loved going to school. As a young lady Margaret worked for Fikse Produce candling eggs where she made many lifelong friends. On February 26, 1953 she was united in marriage to Jacob Bakker at the Reformed Church of Steen. The couple made their home in Hills. In 1960 Margaret was presented the with the opportunity to become an Avon Representative and she excelled as the area Avon Lady for 50 years earning so many Presidents Club awards for outstanding sales that she stopped counting. Margaret enjoyed traveling with her husband. They made trips to the east coast to see Marla as well as venturing to the west coast. After Jacob passed away she enjoyed traveling with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Arie. She loved spending time with family, especially camping with her grandchildren. This past Wednesday July 3, 2013 Margaret passed away at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills at the age of 85. She was a gentle soul and her absence will be sharply felt. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Saralee Bakker of Hills, MN and Marla (David) Irvine of Brandon, SD; granddaughter, Monica (Solomon) Derby of Pipestone, MN; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann (Arie) Drooger of Edgerton, MN; brother, John (Carol) Van Maanen of Hills, MN; sister-in-law, Grace Van Maanen of Rock Valley, IA; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Sarah Van Maanen; husband, Jacob Bakker; grandson, Shawn Baartman; and brother, Jacob Van Maanen.
