Chris Howard Knudson

Sibley, IA Chris Knudson, age 53 of Marshalltown, IA, formerly of Harris, IA died suddenly on Friday, July 8, 2011, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, IA, with Pastor Shannon Pascual officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Chris Howard Knudson was born on November 11, 1957, the son of Clarence and Jean (Jones) Knudson in Storm Lake, Iowa. Chris grew up in Harris, Iowa and graduated from Harris-Lake Park High School in 1976. On July 7, 1981, he enlisted in U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on July 6, 1985. His last duty assignment was on the USS Leftwich DD-984 at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Chris had been living in Marshalltown, IA at the Iowa Veterans Home. In December of 2010, he had received his AA Degree at a community college in Marshalltown. He had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Harris, Iowa. He was an avid reader of western books and enjoyed listening to music. He also enjoyed visiting his friends and this past Friday, July 8, 2011he passed away while visiting a friend at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of fifty-three. Chris had wanted to be an organ and tissue donor and his family honored that wish. Chris is survived by two half-sisters, Marcella Jellema of Worthington, MN and Yvonne Hanson of Greeley, CO; three siblings, Allen Knudson of Milford, IA, Gail Knudson of Sibley, IA and Mark (Karla) Knudson of Sibley, IA; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, Jordan Knudson.
