Sadie M. Harthorn, age 75 of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be at 1:30 PM, Friday, November 24th at the Forster Community Center in Rock Rapids, IA, with burial following at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Thursday, November 23rd from 3 " 8 PM, with the family present from 5 " 8 PM at the Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Sadie Marie Harthorn was born on July 16, 1931 at her family farm near Platte, South Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Eke (Jagersma) Braaksma, youngest of five children. Soon after her birth she and her family moved to California. In 1937 Sadie and her family moved to a farm south east of Sibley, IA. She attended Sibley Community School and help her parents with daily chores on the farm. At age 12 she surrendered her life to the Lord. On February 21, 1952, Sadie was united in marriage to Curtis Harthorn in Sibley, IA. The couple moved to a farm south west of Rock Rapids, IA, were they were blessed with three daughters. Along with raising their children, Sadie and Curtis worked together with the day to day operation of their farm. They also enjoyed traveling together to many places through out the years. They spent fifteen years wintering in Arizona, were they were blessed with the company of their grandchildren, who lived in Arizona. Sadies family will remember her best as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and for her unwavering purpose to serve the Lord. Sadie is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Curtis Harthorn of Rock Rapids, IA; three daughters, Cindy and her husband, Scott Wellein of Rock Rapids, IA, Julie Harthorn of Lake Charles, LA, and Tonya and her husband, Todd Walker of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, Erica and her husband, Greg Kracht of Luverne, MN, Amie and her husband, Bruce Turner of Eyota, MN, Kayla Wellein of Rock Rapids, IA, Bailey, Mackenzie, Riley and Landon Walker, all of Phoenix, AZ; two great-grandchildren, Blake Turner and Mason Kracht; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Braaksma of Chowchilla, CA; a brother-in-law, Charles vander Wal of Scottsdale, AZ; and several other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Tena Braaksma, Christina Braaksma and Grace vander Wal; and brother, Jake.
