Rock Rapids, IA Myron L. Klinkenborg, age 61 of Rock Rapids, IA died Sunday, September 10, 2006 at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, Sept. 13th at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, with Military Honors by the Van Anne-Fields VFW Post 6960 and the Rex Strait American Legion Post 103 of Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 12th from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Roste Funeral Home Rock Rapids. Myron Lee Klinkenborg was born August 3, 1945 at Sibley, Iowa, the son of Everon and Esther (Klaassen) Klinkenborg. He was raised on the family farm east of Rock Rapids, attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated in 1963 from Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids. He remained with his parents helping his father with the farming, until joining the Iowa Air National Guard in Sioux City, IA. His unit was deployed to Vietnam in May of 1968 for a year. He served with the former 174th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Phu Cat, Vietnam. For his services, Myron was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and received his honorable discharge in August of 1971. Upon his return, Myron was united in marriage to Mary Houwen on June 6, 1969 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, Iowa. They lived and farmed in the Rock Rapids area. In 1978, they moved to their current farmstead located east of Rock Rapids. Along with farming, Myron owned and operated a corn shelling business, custom farming operation and for the past few years worked part-time at the George Elevator. He also substituted with the D.O.T during winter storms, helping with snow removal. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, serving as Deacon and was a past member of the Lyon County Coop Oil Board and Rock Rapids Elevator Board. He enjoyed attending auctions in the area, collecting baseball caps and visiting with people. He was very proud of his childrens accomplishments. His family will remember Myron as a loving and caring person, who always had time to listen. This past Sunday, September 10, 2006, Myron died suddenly in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 61. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mary Klinkenborg of Rock Rapids, IA; three children, Monte and his wife, Sara Klinkenborg of Gold River, CA, Marne Klinkenborg of Aurora, CO and Mike Klinkenborg of Iowa City, IA; three grandchildren, Samantha, Keenan and Mikayla Klinkenborg; father, Everon Klinkenborg of Rock Rapids; six brothers, Jim and his wife, Jean Klinkenborg of Worthington, MN, Davis, Randy and Jerry Klinkenborg, all of Rock Rapids, IA, Merle and his wife, Kae Klinkenborg of Sioux Falls, SD and Tom and his wife, Audra Klinkenborg of Rock Rapids, IA; parents-in-law, Henry and Dorothy Houwen of Sibley, IA; and many other extended family. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Klinkenborg; his mother, Esther Klinkenborg; a sister, Donna Ohling; a sister-in-law, Cindy Vander Pol; and many aunts and uncles.
