Harris, Iowa Leland A. McClain, age 94 of Harris, Iowa died Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Lake Park Care Center in Lake Park, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, Feb. 27th at the United Methodist Church in Harris, Iowa, with Rev. Chris Ebbers officiating. Burial will follow at the Harris Union Cemetery in Harris. Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 26th from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Leland Arthur McClain was born August 19, 1913 in Parkston, South Dakota, the son of Harvey and Margaret McClain. In 1927 Lelands family moved to a farm near Harris, Iowa were he graduated from Harris High School. On February 14, 1940 Lee was united in marriage to Doris Christopherson at the Lutheran church in Sioux City, IA. Lee met Doris through his cousin Ebba. After a short honeymoon trip to Omaha, on March 1, 1940, Lee and Doris moved to their first home on a farm 4 ½ miles south of Ocheyedan. On March 1, 1942, with the help of family and neighbors, they moved by horses and wagons to Harris, one mile east and ½ mile north to a 160 acre farm. Together Lee and Doris were blessed with four children, Dorothy, Robert, twins, Mary and James. They made their final move in 1950 to a farm ½ mile north of where they where living. In February of 2008, Leland entered the Lake Park Care Center in Lake Park. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris McClain of Harris, IA; three children, Dorothy (Leslie) Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD, Robert of Fulda, MN, and Mary (Mike) Mayer of Sibley, IA; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Allan McClain of Lake Park, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Harvey and Margaret McClain; a son, James, and an infant brother, Lloyd.
