Luverne, MN Ocke Jellema, age 88 of Hills formerly of Luverne, MN died Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the United Methodist Church, Luverne, MN with Pastor Donn Rakow officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Luverne, with military honors by Dell Hogan American Legion Post No. 123. Visitation will be Friday, January 28th, from 2-8 PM with the family present from 6-8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hill, MN. Ocke Jellema was born July 16, 1922 at Ellsworth, Minnesota, son of Jim and Grace (DeBoer) Jellema. He grew up attended school in rural Rushmore. He worked on farms in the Bigelow and Rushmore area until joining the U.S. Army in 1941. On November 25, 1945 Ocke married Jeanette Harding in Adrian, MN. Following their marriage they lived in various communities before moving to a farm near Kenneth, MN in 1953. He worked at Campbell Soup in 1964, drove for Worthington Daily Globe delivering papers to farms and towns. He retired from farming in 1984 and moved to Luverne, MN. There he was a custodian for United Methodist Church in Luverne. Ocke drove for Rock County Heartland bus, Klarenbeek Rendering and also was a school crossing guard for Luverne Schools. He is survived by a daughter, Carroll (Allan) Miller of Worthington, MN; a son, James (Marilyn) Jellema of Hills, MN; daughter-in-law, Pam (Dan) Dobson of Luverne, MN; three grandchildren, Jodi (Chris) Harnack, Ryan (Sara) Jellema, and Wade (Kylah) Jellema; three great-grandchildren, Easton, Brock and Ava; along with two sisters, Alice Bourassa of Waseca, MN and Bertha Kooistra of Worthington, MN; one brother, Alvin Jellema of Riverdale, UT; and many other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jeanette; sons, Norman and Leland; and a granddaughter, Stacy.
