George, Iowa Raymond Ray Hickman, 89 of Britt, IA, formerly of George, IA died Tuesday morning, November 7, 2006 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, IA. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11th at Immanuel Lutheran Church of George. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Raymond C. Hickman was born July 1, 1917, at Ashton, IA the son of Chris and Bertha (DeGroot) Hickman. Ray grew up in Ashton an attended Ashton schools. He attended Sioux City Barber School, when he became a licensed barber. He served his country in WWII from 1941 to 1945 and received the Silver Star. He was united in marriage to Olga Jacobsen on Sept. 25, 1944, when he was on leave, then returning to the service for another year. Following his honorable discharge they moved to George where he purchased the barber shop and was in business for forty years. To this union were born three sons Jim, Jack and Jerry. He was a member of The Immanual Lutheran Church, American Legion, Masonic Lodge at Sibley, IA. and Boys Scouts. He also served as a Lyon County Supervisor for 8 years. This past Monday, November 7, 2006, Ray died at the Hospice of North Iowa in Britt, IA at the age of eighty-nine. Survived by his wife, Olga, sons, Jack Hickman and his wife, Joy of Forest City, IA; Jerry Hickman and his wife, Mercy of Chino Valley, AZ; and daughter-in-law, Linda Hickman of River Falls, WI; 7 Grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Luella Bangert and Mrytle Moody, son, James and grandson, Charles James Hickman.
