Ashton, IA Marie Jake Boor, age 98 of Ashton, IA died Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Care Center in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2006 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton with Fr. Clair Boes, celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery at Ashton, IA. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton. A Rosary Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Marys Catholic Church. Marie Frances Boor was born on November 18, 1908, the daughter of Reinold and Katherine (Leinen) Boor in Ashton, Iowa. Marie has spent her entire life in the Ashton community and resided in the same house in which she was raised as a child until entering the nursing home in Sibley. She graduated from high school in 1926 and attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa (now known as University of Northern Iowa). She later earned her Masters Degree from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. In 1931, she taught one year of country school near Little Rock, Iowa, then in the Ashton Public School as a kindergarten teacher until the school closed in 1960. Following the school merger, she taught in Sheldon until 1974 and then continued her teaching career at Ashton St. Josephs Catholic School until 1984. During and following her teaching years she was the religion coordinator for St. Marys of Ashton until 1992. After sixty-one years of teaching and becoming a legend in the community, Marie retired and did some traveling. Marie was initiated into the International Society for Women Educators, known as Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a charter member of the local OBrien/Osceola state chapter, known as Alpha Tau. She was a lifelong member of the St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton. Marie is survived by her two sisters, Bernadette Schiefen of Sioux City, IA and Rosalie Kroeger of Brandson, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Martin, Vincent, Norbert and Bernard; and two sisters, Bertha Boor and Hilda Jackley.
