Daniel M. Torbensen, age 76 of Inwood, IA died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. A Celebration of Life Service for Daniel M. Torbensen was held on Wednesday, May 30th at the Roste Funeral Home of Larchwood, with Rev. John Wolf officiating. Daniel Martin Torbensen was born on September 5, 1930 at the family farm five miles west of Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Martin Svend and Dagmar Jensine (Sorensen) Torbensen. He attended the Jepson community Schools and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1947. During and after school Daniel worked for area farmers before entering the U.S. Navy, serving four years working on Air Craft Carriers off the coast of Korea. He received his honorable discharge in 1954, and enlisted in the Air National Guard from 1955 to 1960. He worked at Sears Department Store for 22 years and retired in 1992 and then worked for Prince Manufacturing retiring in 1996. He served as Sexton at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, sang in choir, and performed in the bell choir. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, past board member and long time volunteer of Sioux Land Youth Athletics in Sioux City, IA. He worked with Western Iowa Tech Community College teaching adults to read. He enjoyed repairing and building things in his workshop, including repairing bikes for the Department of Human Services. His family will remember Daniel as a kind, hardworking and non-judgmental man, with a loving heart. He is survived by his children, Richard Torbensen of South Sioux City, IA, Veronica Torbensen of Colorado Springs, CO, Martin Torbensen of Albuquerque, NM, Sue Ann (Torbensen) and Jeff Clark of Colorado Springs, CO, Claire (Torbensen) and Mark Armstrong of Wasilla, AK, and Beth Ann (Torbensen) and Michael Dubbelde of Larchwood, IA; five grandchildren, James, Lee and Curtis Dubbelde, Trevor and John Armstrong; one sister, Anna and Berdette Smith of St. Paul, NE; two brothers, Norris and Hazel Torbensen of Cherokee, IA, Alan Torbensen of Panora, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Hilda Casey.
