Sibley, Iowa Luella Streit, age 84 of Sibley, IA died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley with Fr. John Vakulskas and Fr. Tim Hogan as con-celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Ashton, IA. Visitation will be Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home Walton Chapel of Sibley, IA. There will be a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and a Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Luella Helen Streit was born July 25, 1929, on the family farm near Hospers to Edward and Mary (Jungers) McGrath. She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1948 and furthered her education in the clerical program at Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon. On May 18, 1949, she was united in marriage to Leonard Streit at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sheldon. They were married for nearly 64 years and raised a family of five children. Luella was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. The family was blessed with nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Luella was involved in activities at St. Marys Church in Ashton, including serving as a CCD Teacher, a member of the Catholic Daughters and as a participant in church circles. She served on the Board of the Ashton Public Library for many years. She is survived by her son, Gary (Susan) Streit of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Mary (Noel) Lais of Sioux Falls; son, John (Jenny) Streit of Village of Lakewood, IL; and daughter, Nancy (TR) Franklin of Kansas City, MO; 9 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Stephen) Ham, Andrew (Brooke) Lais, Cory (Matthew) Thompson, Thomas (Faron) Lais, Aaron Lais, Michael Streit, William Streit, Rebecca Lais, Stuart Streit; 3 great-grandchildren, Emma Thompson, Ava Thompson and Andrew Lais Jr. Luella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; son, Craig; and sisters, Laura Poss and Marian Honkomp.
