FUNERAL NOTICE: Ashton, IA Alvin Strouth, age 92 of Ashton, IA died Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton with Fr. Clair L. Boes, celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery at Ashton, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 26th, from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton. A Rosary Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Marys Catholic Church. The Walton-Roste Funeral Home of Ashton is in charge of arrangements. Alvin Michael Strouth was born in Ashton, IA, the son of Alphons and Anna (Sievert) Strouth. He attended school in Ashton and was a lifelong resident in Osceola County. He married Margaret Conway on May 3, 1938 and they raised their six children in Ashton. He worked with Hallet Construction in the early adult years before beginning a long career in livestock and grain farming. During retirement years, he actively managed a gravel mining operation and restored much of the land back to crop farming. He donated a parcel of land to Osceola County Conservation Board which was designated the Strouth Wildlife Area. Alvin and his wife were avid travelers. For over twenty years the couple wintered in South Texas in their motor home. Over Alvins lifetime he served as a board member of numerous farm and related organizations. He was dedicated to the advancement of farming and demonstrated his strong commitment to community. He was a lifetime active member of St. Marys Catholic Church. He was a Charter Member of Knights of Columbus and a member of the Ashton council. Alvin is survived by his three sons, Donald of Colona, IL, David (wife Raquel) of Juneau, AK and Tom (Cheryl) of Silver Lake, KS; daughter-in-law Janet Strouth of Orange City, IA; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Montang of Sun City, AZ and Florence Grieser of New Ulm, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; spouse of sixty-four years, Margaret; son, Marvin and daughter-in-law, Ruth; daughters, Patricia Faris and Carol Strouth-Fultz; brother, Leo; and sister, Marge Anderson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Relay for Life.
