Elisabeth M. Hinrichs, age 87 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, IA. Private family service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, Dec. 28th at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, with burial to follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA. Public visitation will be Monday, Dec. 27th from 2:00 to 9:00 PM, with family present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Elisabeth Magdalena Hinrichs was born December 17, 1923 in Salzburg, Germany, the daughter of Arno and Margaret (Preuss) Schimmelschmidt. She attended a business college with the plans to take over her fathers forestry business. She worked for the Sisterhood of Nurses during the World War II, and met George J. Hinrichs, a U.S Soldier serving in Germany. Following the war they corresponded for several years. In 1949 George returned to Germany and they were united in marriage on December 17, 1949 in Berlin. They moved to a farm near Adrian, MN were they farmed and twelve years later moved to a farm east of Rock Rapids, IA. On November 25, 1997 Lisas husband, George died after 47 years of marriage. Lisa loved going out to eat with her family, picnics, celebrating holidays, her German heritage, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed her trips to New Ulm, MN, where she attended October Fest and enjoyed polka music. She also was blessed to travel to other countries in her lifetime. She often shared her memories of her youth, about her time living in her native country, Germany, during WWII. She was especially fond of her pets. After residing for one week at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, IA Lisa died this past Thursday, December 23, 2010, at the age of 87. She is survived by her son, Mike (Connie) Hinrichs of George, IA; son-in-law, Ed Regnerus of Sioux Center, IA; seven granddaughters, Christi (Greg) Van Beek, Trish (Harv) Sandbulte, Michelle (Brad) Pomrenke, Angela Bahnsen, all of Sioux Center, IA, Dawn (Mark) Vanden Top of Rock Rapids, IA, Amy (Mike) McCauley of Somerset, SD, and Traci (Erick) Jensen of Harrisburg, SD; one grandson, Justin (Cassie) Hinrichs of Rock Rapids, IA; seventeen great-grandchildren; and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arno Schimmelschmidt and Margaret Preuss; husband, George, J. Hinrichs; and her daughter, Astrid Regnerus.
