Sibley, IA John Hibma, age 39 of Sibley, IA died Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley from injuries sustained in a farming accident. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, Reverend Gary Van Heukelom officiating. Burial will follow in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan, IA. Visitation will be at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, Tuesday, Nov. 8th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. John Robert Hibma was born January 29, 1972, the son of Robert and Laurel (Gentis) Hibma in Hartley, Iowa. John grew up on a farm north of Ocheyedan and attended grade school there. He graduated from Faith Christian High School in Bigelow, MN in 1991. He was united in marriage to Lana Hurd on April 8, 2000 at First Reformed Church in Sibley. John and Lana have one daughter, Elizabeth Grace Marie, 9 years old. John started farming with his father as a young man and after his marriage he shared his love of farming with Lana. Together they operated J & L Farms. Johns hard work and mechanical skills were appreciated by many, particularly at Bosma Poultry where he worked as a truck mechanic. He was an active member of the First Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and on the Christian Education Committee. He loved to watch Elizabeth ride horse and enjoyed Sprint Car and World of Outlaws racing. John was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of eleven years, Lana Hibma, daughter, Elizabeth; his parents, Robert and Laurel Hibma of Sibley; brother, Andrew Hibma of Carrollton, TX; sister, Alice Hibma of Minneapolis, MN; father-in-law, Jackie Hurd of Sibley; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents Isaac and Alice Gentis; Pierce and Charlotte Hibma; and mother-in-law Frances Hurd. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.
