Everett "Bud" Fikse

Hills, MN Everett T. Bud Fikse, age 81 of Hills, MN died Friday, July 03, 2009, of congestive heart failure, at his home with his wife of 60 years by his side. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 7th at American Reformed Church in Luverne, MN, with Rev. Dave Sikkema officiating. Burial will follow at the United Reformed Cemetery in Hills, MN, with military honors by the Hills American Legion Post No. 399. Visitation will be Monday, July 6th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills. Everett Tim Bud Fikse was born November 10, 1927 in Steen, Minnesota, the son of Tim and Mina Ver Hey) Fikse. He was raised in Hills, MN and attended the Hills Community Schools, graduating for Hills High School in 1945. In 1945 he served in the U.S. Army serving overseas as a Flight Traffic Clerk. He received his honorable discharge in 1946 and returned home. Bud continued his education at Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, SD. On June 24, 1949 Bud was united in marriage to Catherine Proost at Steen Reformed Church in Steen, MN. The couple made their home Hills, MN where they remained. Bud was part owner and operator of Fikse Produce in Hills, along with other family members. Bud and Catherine were blessed with nine children, Eugene, Donavan, Gary, Faith, Leroy, Judy, Rodney, Lois and Joan. In 1966 Bud started his career as an Insurance Agent for 27 years, retiring in 1993 with American Family Insurance of Luverne, MN. Bud also drove bus for the Hills Beaver Creek School District for several years. He was a member of the American Reformed Church of Luverne, active with the choir and past elder. He also served on Dordt College Board for several years. Bud volunteered much of his time transporting local people to appointments. Also Bud and Catherine were quite active with the Emergency Relief program where they volunteered at various places throughout the U.S. Bud enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating with his children. Bud is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine Fikse of Hills, MN; seven children, Gary Fikse of Hills, MN, Faith (Butch) Kruse of Rock Rapids, IA, Leroy Fikse of Norwalk, CA, Judy DeBondt of Bakersfield, CA, Rodney Fikse of Lakewood, CA, Lois (Alan) Leuthold of Hills, MN and Joan (Steve) Michael of Larchwood, IA; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Dena (Clayton) De Jongh of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Arie (Norma) Fikse of Freemont, MI; and many other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tim and Mina Fikse; two sons, Eugene and Donavan Fikse; a grandson, Aaron DeBondt; and sister, Mazie Boogaard.
