Neva Vogel

Rock Rapids, IA Neva Vogel, age 96 of Rock Rapids, IA, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 22nd at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Ronald Yungmann officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Thursday, May 21st from 2:00 " 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Home of Rock Rapids. Neva M. (Baustian) Vogel was born on August 31, 1912, the daughter of Albert and Inga (Blum) Baustian in Rock Rapids, IA. She grew up and graduated from the Rock Rapids High School in 1930. Neva began teaching in one-room schools in Lyon County Iowa the day after her 18th birthday and continued her teaching career for eight years. During high school Neva dated Everett Vogel and on June 12, 1938 they were united in marriage at the Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. To this union three children were born, Janis, Bonnie and Ervin. Following their marriage they farmed east of Rock Rapids for thirty-two years. Neva was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of the church ladies group. She enjoyed baking, solving crossword puzzles and taking care of her house plants. Neva was a dedicated mother and farm wife and loved everything about the farm, including gathering and selling eggs at a local feed store. This past Wednesday, May 20, 2009, Neva passed away at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids at the age of ninety-six. Neva is survived by one daughter, Bonnie (husband, Don) Hoksbergen of Hull, IA; one son, Ervin (wife, Karen) Vogel of Rapid City, SD; son-in-law, Larry Finley of Sioux City, IA; eight grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Dennis of San Gabriel CA and Caroline Stoup of Shoreline WA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Everett on March 9, 2004; daughter Janis on November 26, 2006, three sisters, Cecile Gaston, Arlene Van Gelder and Edna Conley; two brothers, Wayne and Don Baustian; and a set of quadruple great-grandchildren.
