Rock Rapids, IA Gerald J. Dolphin, age 79 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at the Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Monday, March 19th at the Lester Community Building in Lester, IA. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA. Visitation will be Sunday, March 18th from 4 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Lester Community Building in Lester, IA. Gerald John Dolphin, son of John and Tracy (Hulst) Dolphin, was born at rural Hospers, IA on September 17, 1927. He passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at the Lyon Manor and Rehab Center, at the age of 79. He grew up and attended school in Primghar, IA. Upon graduation from high school, he managed a Primghar grocery store. In 1950,he was drafted to the army and served his country in the Korean War as sergeant. After his discharge, he entered the University of South Dakota and recieved a masters degree in teaching and school administration. On June 29, 1973, he married Mary Silvey of Rock Rapids, IA. Together they farmed until hewas elected as County recorder. Gerald retired in 1993 and spent his winters in Phoenix AZ until his health deteriorated. In the spring of 2006,Gerald was admitted to the Prairie View Villa of Sanborn IA, but was transferred to the Lyon Manor and Rehab Center in February 2007. As a young man,Gerald gave his heart to the Lord and has been true to that choice until his death. He is survived by hisloving wife, Mary, two step-children, Sandy and her husband, Rod Ferguson of Spirit Lake IA and Loren and his wife, Linda Silvey of Rock Rapids, IA. Also surviving are 3 step-grandchildren, Chane and his wife, Dawn Patten, Amanda and her husband, Dan Eicher, Dana Silvey and two step-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Eugene and his wife, Mary Dolphin of Hampton, IA, also a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
