Wendell Klaahsen

Little Rock Wendell Klaahsen, age 73, of Little Rock, died Monday, December 3, 2007 at the Sanford Hospital, Rock Rapids Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 6th at the Zoar Presbyterian Church in George, IA, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasantview Cemetery in Little Rock, IA. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 5th from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Wendell Klaahsen was born January 2, 1934 in rural Lyon County, Iowa, the son of John K. and Anna (Jansen) Klaahsen. He was raised on the family farm near George, IA and attended country school. After school Wendell remained with his parents and helped with farming, until he began working at Bennies 66 Filling Station in Little Rock, IA. He entered the U.S. Army in December of 1955 serving with A - Battery of the 49th field Artillery Battalion. He was Honorably Discharged from active duty in September of 1957. He returned home and continued working at Bennies 66 in Little Rock. On October 30, 1957 Wendell was united in marriage to Carol Miller at Zoar Presbyterian Church near George, IA. In 1962 Wendell worked for Niessink Implement in Rock Rapids until 1968 when he began working for Lyon County as a mechanic. He retired from Lyon County in 1996. He was a member of Post #0322 American Legion in Currie, MN. He enjoyed being at the cabin on Lake Shetek, playing music, fishing, tinkering and repairing things, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered by his family as a loving, patient man whose teaching was very instrumental in their lives. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol (Miller) Klaahsen of Little Rock, IA; three sons, Brent (and Janelle) Klaahsen, Blair (and Sharon) Klaahsen and Troy Klaahsen, all of Little Rock, IA; seven grandchildren, Brian (and Vicki) Ver Meer of Lancaster, VA, Nicole (and Jeff) Kruger of George, IA, Brittany and Brooke Klaahsen, both of Little Rock, IA, Allison (and Trinnity) Lansink of Ocheyedan, IA, Alexandra and Zachary Klaahsen both of Little Rock, IA; two great-grandsons, Morgan Ver Meer and Lane Kruger; two sisters, Genola Eben and Glenda DeBoer, both of George, IA; one brother, Eldon Klaahsen of St. Ansgar, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Klaahsen; one sister, Lois Arends; and one brother, Marvin Klaahsen.
