George, IA Herbert R. Feldman age 71 of George, IA died Saturday Oct. 4, 2008 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7th at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George. Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 6th from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Herbert Ray Feldman was born on May 11, 1937 on the DeVries family farm, the son of Herbert and Florence (DeVries) Feldman. He grew up east of Ellsworth, MN and attended country school and later graduated from Ellsworth High School. After graduating from high school he went to college and graduated from Chicago Diesel Tech School. On February 14, 1958 he married Betty Lou Vredeveld at the church parsonage north of George. They lived at various places in the area such as Little Rock, IA, Bigelow, MN, Adrian, MN, Rushmore, MN and George, IA. Herb farmed for a time and also dug wells for a few years. Then he and his wife owned and operated their own grain trucking business for many years. In his spare time he would invent and fix things, and was an avid woodworker. He and his wife enjoyed attending Midwest Polka Fest dances. Herb and Betty enjoyed sitting out in their patio , and Herb would play his concertina. He is survived by five children, Marie Bouma of Orange City, IA, Bob (and Twila) Feldman of George, IA, Richard Feldman of Hospers, IA, Susan (and Dan) Rentschler of Onalaska, WI; and Joan (and Bill) Johnson of Ashton, IA; ten grandchildren, Michael Bouma; Melissa Bouma; Matthew Feldman; Tracy Feldman; Daniel Feldman; Joshua Feldman; Steven Feldman; Angela Rentschler; Amy Rentschler and Charlene Johnson; one sister, Nellie (and John) Hedeman of Rochester, MN; one step-brother, James Baumann of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Nancy Boumann of Marshall, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Feldman, Christian and Florence Boumann; wife, Betty Feldman; son, Michael Feldman; son-in-law, Kenneth Bouma; brother, Arnold Boumann.
