Larchwood, IA Albert Al Blauwet, age 91 of Larchwood, IA died December 21, 2008 at Fellowship Village in Inwood, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, December 24th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Father Jeff Schleisman officiating. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 23rd from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. There will also be a Vigil service at 7:00 PM at the church Tuesday evening. Albert George Blauwet was born August 4, 1917 on the family farm, southeast of Larchwood, Iowa, the son of August, Sr. and Alice (Strubbe) Blauwet. Al grew up on the farm and received his education at St. Marys School, graduating in 1934. After graduation he remained farming with his father and Uncle Cyril. Al was united in marriage on June 4, 1946 to Aileen Van Vooren at St. Marys Catholic Church in Rock Valley, IA. For most of his adult life Al farmed with his brother, August Blauwet, Jr., raising crops and feeding primarily Black Angus cattle for 67 years. Als cattle Topped the fat cattle market many times in Sioux City, IA, Sioux Falls, SD and Chicago, IL. It was in Als early years as a cattlefeeder that he would ship fat cattle by train to Chicago. On these trips he would accompany his cattle by getting a seat in the caboose. In 1998, Al and Aileen retired and moved to their home in Larchwood. Although Al was retired he was still very active, helping his family with the farm and attended every cattle auction he could. He was a member of The Church of St. Mary and was an usher there for over 50 years. He also served on the boards of Larchwood Farmers Elevator and Lester State Bank. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling and dancing. Al never minded being referred to as a Farmer , but was especially proud of being called a Cattleman . Al entered the Fellowship Village Home in Inwood, IA in April of 2002 and two years later, on April 22, 2004, Als wife, Aileen died, after 57 years of marriage. Al remained living at Fellowship Village until this past Sunday, December 21, 2008, where he died at the age of 91. Al is survived by five children, Roger Blauwet of Washington, DC, Dale Barney (Judy) Blauwet of Larchwood, IA, Allen Shorty (Sue) Blauwet of Larchwood, IA, Bonnie (Dan) Sehr of Canton, SD, and Scott Blauwet of Rock Rapids, IA; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Al is preceded by his parents, August, Sr. and Alice; his wife, Aileen; two brothers, Charles and August, Jr. Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven.
