Mobridge, SD formerly of Ocheyedan, IA Nellie Siemon age 97 of Mobridge formerly of Ocheyedan, IA died, September 13, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge, SD. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan, IA with. Pastors Keith Kraft and Douglas P Harding officiating. Burial will be in the Holman Township Cemetery at Sibley Iowa. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan on Tuesday. Nellie Siemon was born March 21, 1910 near Worthington, MN. one of seven children born to Claus and Eva (DeVries) Huisenga. Nellie was raised in Rushmore, MN and attended high school at Worthington, MN. Education was a very vital part of Nellies life, in order for her to finish high school education, during her junior year; she lived above the city jail in Worthington and served meals to the inmates. Every chance she had, Nellie would return to college and take night courses or correspondence courses until she received B.S. in Elementary Education from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA in 1968. Her son David received his degree that same year from NSU in Aberdeen, SD. Nellie taught in rural schools in Rushmore, MN and Sibley, IA and Harris/Lake Park IA Public School until she finished her degree. She then taught in Fonda, IA until her retirement. She married John Henry Siemon in Sibley, IA on September 10, 1936. Nellie and her late husband operated a General Store in Ocheyedan, IA for many years. In 1943, misfortune came in the form of fire to their store. They advertised a huge fire sale. Canned goods were sold without labels and fabric sold after being washed. Every clothes line in the neighborhood was filled with yards and yards of material. Six weeks later they were back in business with lots and lots of new merchandise. In May of 2000, Nellie moved to Mobridge, SD to be near her son David and Rubye and was a resident of the Golden Living Center until her death. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ocheyedan, Eastern Star, and United Federated Womens Club Past Matrons. Nellie is survived by sons David (Rubye) Siemon of Mobridge, SD, Earl (Kathy) Siemon of Thomson, IL, son-in-law Mark Rundle of Cumming, GA,7 grandchildren Shane (Kathy) Siemon, Chad (Mandy) Siemon, Jason (Lara) Siemon, and Ann (Eric) Nordeen, Scott (Kim) Rundle, Stephanie (Markus) Nelson and Stacey (Ed) Lynch. 6 great grand children Staci Ganje, Christine and Colin Siemon and Justin and Elizabeth Lynch and Errol Siemon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband John and daughter Suzanne Rundle.
