Little Rock, IA Barbara Kanengieter, age 76 of Little Rock, IA died Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Tuesday, July 6th at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA, with Rev. Brian Hellenga officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock. Visitation will be Monday, July 5th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Barbara Jean Kanengieter was born April 24, 1934 in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Weeden and Pearl (Newkirk) Cripe. She was raised in Sibley, IA and attended the community schools. Barbara was united in marriage on October 30, 1951 to Elmer H. Kanengieter at the First Reformed Church in Sibley. They lived various places such as Orange City, IA, Minneapolis, MN and Holland, MI, before settling down in Little Rock, IA. She worked as a nurses aide at area nursing homes. She was a member of the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA. She enjoyed having coffee with friends and family, flower gardening, reading, going for rides with Elmer and spending time with her family. Some of her fond memories were living by Lake Michigan, taking family vacations to Yellowstone and the Black Hills and the family gathering where five generations were present. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who gave all she had to those she loved. She is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, Elmer Kanengieter of Little Rock, IA; five children, Debra (Gaylen) Terhark of Little Rock, IA, Paula (Kurt) Reichert of Lodi, WI, Jay Kanengieter of Shelby, NE, Alan (Stephanie) Kanengieter of Little Rock, IA and Kelle Koenig of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter-in-law, Julie Kanengieter of Sioux Falls, SD; twelve grandchildren, Jason (Kim) Terhark of Little Rock, IA, Jill (Wade) Netten of Little Rock, IA, Brian Boe of Wyoming, Rob, Hannah and Olivia Kanengieter of Sioux Falls, SD, Dustin (Megan) Thompson of Minneapolis, MN, Chris Kanengieter of George, IA, Patti (Mike) Ubbinga of St. Paul, Mn, Sharon (Ken) Fuller of Phoenix, AZ, Levi Ringquist of Brookings, SD and Logan Ringquist of Little Rock, IA, seven great-grandchildren, Mariah, Caleb and Noah Terhark of Little Rock, IA, Parker and Emersyn Netten of Little Rock, IA, Aspen Kanengieter of Phoenix, AZ and Grace Ubbinga of St. Paul, MN; one brother, Carl (Pecuan) Cripe of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Virginia Feenstra of Sioux City, IA and Carol (Gilbert) Menendez of Boise, ID and by four sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Weeden and Pearl Cripe; two sons, Phillip and David Kanengieter; two brothers, Clayton and Mike Cripe; and one sister, Francis Boyer.
