James Christiansen

Rock Rapids, Iowa James K. Christiansen, age 82 of Rock Rapids, IA died on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Sanford Hospital Rock Rapids, IA. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday September 3, 2013 at Jurrens Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Vik and Rev. Keith Vik officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Family will be receiving guests from 1:00 p.m. to time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 3, 2013 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, IA. James Kenneth Christiansen was born in Viborg, South Dakota to Niels and Jensine (Volhoj) Christiansen. He was raised in Viborg and graduated from Viborg High School. Jim served during the Korean War with the Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return Jim earned a B.S. degree in Economics from South Dakota State University in Brookings. He worked for the USDA in Little Rock, AK and moved to the Richmond, Virginia area and worked in Washington DC. He later moved to Omaha, Nebraska and worked for Montgomery Ward for 22 years before retiring in 1994. In January of 2011 Jim moved to Rock Rapids to be closer to family. Jim was very proud of his Danish ancestry and made many trips to Denmark to visit family and friends. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood in which he held several offices. Jim was a member of the Countryside Community Church in Omaha, NE. Jim enjoyed crossword puzzles, listening to classical music and operas, and watching college sports, especially Nebraska Cornhusker football. This past Tuesday, Jim passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of 82. He will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his sister, Marie Vik of Rock Rapids, IA; brother, Roger Christiansen of Sioux Falls, SD; niece, Karen (Bob) Reemts of Rock Rapids, IA; nephews, Neil (Sacia) Vik of Kent, WA, and Keith (Angie) Vik of Ashland, WI; cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and great great-nephew and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Leroy Christiansen.
