Sibley, Iowa Veronica Engelkes, age 63 of Sibley, IA died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Hartley Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Sibley, with Rev. Larry Laskie officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilman Township Cemetery of Ashton. Visitation will be Friday, February 20th from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Veronica Rose Engelkes was born April 10, 1945 to Hiko and Loretta (Walburn) Kor in Sibley, Iowa. She received her education in Sibley. She worked at Sibley Caf in Sibley. She was united in marriage to Alfred Engelkes on July 20, 1970 in South Sioux City, Nebraska and the couple made their home in Sibley. She enjoyed camping and riding bike with her husband and just spending time with him. She loved to cook and was very artistic. She created beautiful pictures throughout her lifetime that her husband and others will cherish. She also liked to sew and made several things that will be heirlooms for her family. But mostly she enjoyed spending time with her husband and family. She and Alfred were especially fond of visiting Veronicas mother, Loretta. They spent many happy hours over coffee and cookies. This past Tuesday Veronica passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley at the age of 63. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Alfred; sister, Martha Mae (Gordy) Wassman of Sibley, IA; brother Jans Kor of Clorinda, Iowa; niece Barbie Wassman and nephew James Wassman both of Sibley; and many extended family members. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, Hicko and Loretta Kor.
