Little Rock, Iowa Margaret Bergman, age 85 of Little Rock, IA died on Wednesday, January 01, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society Home in George, IA. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4th at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA, with Rev. Matt Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 3rd from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Margaret Bergman was born November 28, 1928 at her parents home in Osceola County, Iowa to Jacob and Tena (Ebbinga) Stratmeier. She received her education from Little Rock public school. On December 12, 1945 she was united in marriage to John Bergman at the parsonage of Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock. The couple made their home in the Little Rock area. Margaret worked as a nurses aide at the Sibley Hospital from November 1968 to 1976. She also worked as Dinner Date site manager for 10 years. She began cake decorating in December of 1958 for her parents 50th anniversary and finished with her grandson Caleb and Caseys wedding cake in June of 2010. She was a member of Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock for over 60 years, also active in Willing Workers, Womans Club and Elgin Homemakers. She had a love of flowers and gardening, and was known for growing red dinner plate dahlias. Time spent with family was very important to Margaret, through camping outings, reunions, and Sunday afternoon visits. On April 18, 2009 she lost her beloved husband John after 64 years of marriage. Margaret remained living in her home until October of 2012 when she entered the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA. She remained there until this past Wednesday, January 1, 2014, when she died at the age of 85. Margaret is survived by daughters, Linda (Larry) Kix of Rock Rapids, IA; Dianne (Harlan) Johnson of Ellsworth, MN; Marjorie Van Roekel of Oakdale, MN and Judy Huisman of Rock Rapids, IA; 12 grandchildren; Loren (Karla) Kix, Mark (Kate) Kix, Marla Hanover, Michelle (Michael) Fenicle, Amy (Joel) Labat, Tracy (Bobby) Gruis, Jill Johnson, Jan (Adam) Kinsinger, Clint (Laura) Van Roekel, Kyle Van Roekel (fianc Kim Bradford), Caleb (Casey) Van Roekel and Kendall (Christa) Huisman; 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; twin sister, Mabel Balster of Little Rock, IA; sisters-in-law, Clarice Bergman of Perry, IA and Kathryn Saville of Sheldon, IA; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Tena Stratmeier; her husband, John Bergman; son-in-law, Russell Huisman; brothers, Jake and William Stratmeier; sisters, Jessie Funk, Fannie Gruis, Grace Russman, Marie Hassebroek; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
