Sibley, Iowa Bertha Klaassen Schaa, age 93 of Sibley, IA died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Country View Manor in Sibley. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 2nd at Zoar Presbyterian Church of rural George with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow in the Zoar Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, February 1st from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Bertha Klaassen Schaa was born on September 15, 1915, the daughter of Bert and Bertha (Grave) Groote in rural George, IA. She grew up in the George area and attended country school there. On March 31, 1934, she was united in marriage to Andrew B. Klaassen in Sibley, IA. The couple farmed in the Sibley area, until Andrews death on December 7, 1966. Bertha continued to live on the farm. Then on April 21, 1979, she married Glenn Schaa in George, IA. Glenn passed away on September 15, 1991. Several years later, on December 6, 1996, she moved to the Country View Manor, where she lived until her death. Bertha was a member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church, rural George, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher and served as a member of the Loyal Womens Circle. She enjoyed music, singing, dancing, fishing, crossword puzzles and cooking special meals for her grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are three children, Delbert (wife, Beverly) Klaassen of Sibley, Burdell (wife, Deb) Klaassen of Sibley and Nancy (husband, George) Schmidt of Ellsworth, MN; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred (wife, Dorothy) Groote of Sibley; and one sister, Ida Klinkenborg of Worthington, MN; two sisters-in-law, Tena Groote of Sibley and Gert Groote of Little Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Andrew B. Klaassen; second husband, Glenn Schaa; four brothers, John, Bernard, Lubertus and George Groote; and three sisters, Nellie Kirk, Anna Wells and Leona Johnson and an infant granddaughter, Kristi Klaassen.
