DEATH NOTICE: Rushmore, MN Elgin T. Larson, age 79 of Rushmore, MN died Monday, November 20, 2006, at the Worthington Regional Hospital in Worthington, MN. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Friday, November 24, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, with Reverend Scott Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Thursday, November 23rd, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Sibley. Elgin Thomas Larson was born on March 21, 1927, and raised on a farm southwest of Sibley, the son of Louis Herman and Velva Emma (Folkers) Larson. He attended West Holman Country School and graduated from the Ashton High School in 1945. Prior to his marriage and his service in the military, Elgin worked as a milk hauler at the Osceola Co-op Creamery and for Bill Fettes as a mechanic. On December 26, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lavonne Strenge at the American Lutheran Church in Melvin. Elgin served as a Corporal in the military from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Fort Collins, CO. In 1953, Lavonne and Elgin moved to George, Iowa where they began farming. In 1958, they moved to the Bigelow and Rushmore, Minnesota areas and continued farming. Elgin received a heart transplant on October 27, 1992 and has now, following his death; participated as a tissue donor, to give to others as he had once received. He and his wife became residents at the Sibley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, Iowa on September 17, 2004. His wife Lavonne passed away on January 30, 2005. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Sibley. Elgin enjoyed farming and spending time with his family. Elgin is survived by his six children; Alan (Gayle) Larson of Worthington, MN, Vickie (Marvin) Kuipers of Reading, MN, Shellie (Jim) Lynn of Adrian, MN, Thomas (Jane) Larson of Rushmore, MN, Mary (Steve) Laverman of Ocheyedan, IA, and James (Rhonda) Larson of Rushmore; 12 grandchildren, Amber (John) Luinenburg, Matt (Brittany) Larson, LaChelle (Andy) Wieme, Elizabeth Lynn (Adam Hoekstra), Cliff Lynn, Andy Larson, Kristen Larson, Jocelyn Laverman, Jacob Laverman, Jeffrey Larson, Dustin Larson and Ashley Larson; and one great grandson, Colton Lynn; three siblings: Nina Trei of George, IA, Lois Odens of Little Rock, IA and Don (Verla) Larson of Sibley, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Velva Larson and his wife Lavonne.
