Erma Schubbe

Hills, MN Erma Schubbe, age 92 of Hills, MN died Thursday, August 16, 2012, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 20th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN with Rev. Mahlon Bekedam, officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Hills. Visitation will be Sunday, August 19th from 2:00 " 6:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 p.m. " 6:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills. Erma Corrine Arzell Schubbe was born September 27, 1919 on the Halls homestead in Martin Township Minnesota. She was the daughter of Arthur M. Halls and Clara (Larson) Halls. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith by Reverend Theodore Rodsater at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills. She attended elementary school and high school in Hills and graduated from Mankato State College. Ermas long teaching career began in 1940 teaching first grade in Mapleton, MN and then kindergarten in Austin, MN. On November 10, 1945 she was married to Lyle A. Schubbe of Mapleton, MN in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Hills. They made their home near Mapleton until 1958 when they moved to the Halls homestead near Hills. After moving to the Hills community, she taught in the primary grades at Hills and Hills-Beaver Creek schools until her retirement in 1986. They lived on the farm until 1983 when they moved into the house in Hills. Lyle passed away on March 3rd, 2001. Erma enjoyed teaching and tried to make school a happy place for her students. She was active in her church and the community, serving on various boards in the area. Erma was an active member of the Rock County Historical Society and served as a docent in the Rock County Museum in Luverne for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sister, Renza Anderson of Edina, MN and her three children and their spouses: Steve Schubbe and his wife, Phylura of San Diego, CA; Tom Schubbe and his wife Margaret of Afton, MN; and Carolyn Randall and her husband Paul of Stillwater, MN. Erma is also survived by her five grandchildren: Christopher Schubbe and his wife, Candice of Harrogate, England; Jonathan Schubbe and his wife, Natalie of Medicine Lake, MN; Thomas Schubbe, Washington D.C.; and Jeffrey and Nathan Randall of Stillwater, MN. In lieu of flowers, family wishes memorials be directed to Tuff Memorial Home or Rock County Historical Society.
