Rock Rapids, IA William Bill George, age 85 of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, June 08, 2007 at his home in Rock Rapids. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Mon., June 11th at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, with Pastor Bruce Bane and Pastor Vickie Rath officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sun., June 10th from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. William Howard George was born on June 14, 1921, the son of Nathan and Helena (Petersen) George in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids in 1940. On September 30, 1952, William was united in marriage to Clara Schettler in Larchwood, Iowa. Bill and Clara farmed the family farm with his father (Nate George & Sons) and his brother Don (George Brothers) until 1984, when they retired and moved into Rock Rapids. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, playing pool and billiards, playing cards, watching the Hawkeyes and other sports on TV, and visiting with friends and the neighbor kids, when they were playing outside. William is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Clara George of Rock Rapids; two sons, Richard (wife Deborah) George of Mount Vernon, IA and Gary (wife Cheryl) George of Egan, SD; four grandchildren, Geoffrey George of Iowa City, IA, Cathy George of Mount Vernon, IA and Amanda and Sarah George of Brookings, SD; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nate and Helena George; one brother, Donald George; and one sister, Helen Rath.
